HD Printing of Any Photo on Metal!

Print on metal w/ dropshadow - makes
the image look like it's floating!
This is one of our latest techniques that we are very excited about.  We first developed this technology for our business logo signs, in order to print logos, graphics and such on metal.  Once we perfected that process (and developed some slick effects and techniques along the way) the logical next step was to apply this image printing on metal process to photographs!

How do we make our metal photo prints?
So the first thing we need is a high-definition photograph.  We can use lower-definition pics if that is all you have, however the finished project will not be as impressive, particularly if we have to blow it up to a larger size.  The image will be grainy and pixellated if we have to stretch it, however if you have a photo that you REALLY want printed on metal and you only have a low definition version of it, send it along anyway and our graphic engineers can try to work some magic - at the very least we may be able to apply some creative Photoshop filters to make an artistic version of your photo (like the black and white outline of the 3 dog heads in the banner above.)

Once we have your photo, we put together a digital rendering for you to review and approve our concept before we actually print the photo on the metal.  Our digital renderings are SCARY accurate, so you really will see exactly what you are going to get!

Once the digital rendering is approved, we move forward with the HD printing...

Prints + CNC-Cutting Combination

We can also do a hybrid of CNC-cutting and photo printing.  In this example, a client sent us some photographs of their dogs and they wanted a bit of an abstract/minimalistic version of the photographs made into a piece of wall art.

We took the original photos and created these black outline versions of the dogs' faces, cut out the outlines/silhouettes of the heads from sheet metal, and then printed the outline images on the cut-outs.  Then we layered the cutouts on another piece of metal with a grind pattern to give it a backdrop.

2 Types of Prints:

PictureSemi-transparent print on metal
w/ starburst grind pattern
We have two different types of prints that we apply to the photos that we print:

1. Transparent Print on Metal: this converts the any white in the photo to clear (giving it the silvery-white metallic color), and all of the printed colors use a transparent acrylic ink so you can actually see the grind pattern in the metal through the inks.  This works great for images like the motocross guy to the left (and in the banner above) because the starburst grind pattern in the metal really becomes part of the picture.

2. Opaque Print w/ Drop Shadow: this is a process that took us a long time to develop, but is also really cool.  We keep the whites so you don't see the grind pattern through the colors in the photo, however we add a drop shadow around the edges to make the image look like it is floating off the surface of the metal.

We can show you digital renderings of each style and/or make recommendations based on your photo.

Grind Pattern Options
Although some grind patterns are more popular than others, we have
several options to choose from, which we can show you during the digital rendering phase.  The starburst pattern tends to be the most dramatic and eye-catching, so you will see it in a lot of our examples.

Do I Have to Pay for the Digital Rendering..?

Believe it or not, we provide the renderings for free.  We feel that the customer has the right to see what they are purchasing before anything is final, even with a custom order.  All we require is an order deposit to know you are serious about the purchase, and when we have your approval on the digital rendering we apply that deposit in full to the price of the complete photo print.  And No, we don't increase our retail prices at all to compensate for that!  It really is just a courtesy we provide to help ensure a positive customer experience for all of our metal print customers!

Looks like the logo was cut out and mounted to the surface, right? That's actually a print with an applied drop-shadow technique!
