Our Artistic Grind Patterns & Metal Textures
Our artistic grind patterns are all crafted by hand, unlike the machined patterns that you see in common decorative building materials. This means each sign is a 1 of 1 original work of art, with a free-flowing that is custom tailored to the size, shape, and aspect ratio of your logo. The patterns are permanently scratched into the surface using various metalworking tools (angle grinders, die grinders, sanders, etc) and will glisten with holographic movement as light reflects off of the grooves in the paths.
We can incorporate any of these artistic grind patterns into your custom sign. We can also add semi-transparent coloring over the grind and a brilliant high-gloss clear coat, adding additional artistic elements and layers. Below are the grind patterns we have designed in-house, but we can also modify and customize as needed to coordinate with your brand.
NOTE: Also available for purchase in full/blank sheets, for other architectural/artistic purposes
Artistic Grind Patterns: Exclusive to CustomLogoSigns
Actual Grind Pattern by NAY
Although certainly not a requirement with any given sign, perhaps the most recognizable trait of a sign from CustomLogoSigns.com is the artist grind patterns we use on metal.
The concept for our grind patterns emerged from the early requests we received to make logo signs, even before we were in the sign business! Back in 2006 our focus was on high-end, hand-crafted original metal art and sculptures. The sleek, contemporary stye and strong, impressive finishes of the work had the tendency to draw the attention of corporations and business owners. Many of these would purchase our artwork to decorate their buildings, which soon led to inquiries for custom metal signs incorporating their logo along with one of our signature grind patterns.
Fast forward several years, and Custom Logo Signs is getting requests and producing signs for businesses of all sizes. Most companies choose us for the creative, unique, and 100% original/proprietary artistic patterns that our artists NAY and Helena Martin apply to the metal. However with our original artwork and decorative grinding skills in high demand (and the process being rather time-consuming) we decided to come up with a more cost-effective solution to help accommodate smaller budgets and tighter deadlines - thus the PRINTED metal grind was invented!
Gallery-Level Grinds & Grind Prints
Hand-Crafted Grinds vs Printed Grinds
Just as you may have guessed, the printed grind patterns are essentially a high-resolution photo print of an actual grind pattern. We have done this by creating several panels of hand-crafted grind patterns and having them professionally photographed and converted to a digital file. After much trial and error and countless tests, we came up with a unique method of printing these images onto metal to give them the appearance of a real grind pattern - with the seemingly impossible precision, clean lines, clever balance, and artistic appeal that our artists are known for.
With that in mind, it is important to recognize that perhaps the most impressive feature of an actual grind pattern is the life, depth and motion - as you walk by or shift from side to side, the light catches the grooves of the pattern and moves, dances, and creates a holographic effect that cannot be duplicated in a photograph. Although that element is obviously lacking in a print, we have personally attended each photo session to ensure the ideal lighting scenario and contrast with each photo to make the printed versions as life-like as possible.
Also Available: Sanded Metal Finish
If you would like to tone it down even one step further by simply going with a natural, sanded metal finish (similar to the brushed finish commonly used on appliances and kitchen treatments) then that is absolutely an option as well. We still ensure a spectacular finish with crisp, clean cuts and/or prints, vibrant colors, and a variety of styles and finishes. Here are a few examples of signs we have done without a grind pattern:
